Tech Babies

Dalton's blog reminded me of this comic.Interestingly enough, this is what typically occurs with kids.
Another interesting thought that came to mind as I read his blog is how the different generations of youth was influenced by the media.
In high school, I would think each year how the new "freshies" seemed to get worse and worse each year. As I examined how the media has changed throughout the years, I've come up with a theory as to why those "freshies" seem to digress. Whatever is played on the radio, shown on TV, or put on the internet, kids WILL somehow be influenced. If the younger children actually think what is in the media is how the older 'kids' act, then they will idolize that particular behavior. Now, some of the media-inspired behavior does exist through all ages but those behaviors will become more wide-spread, as time has shown. Just a theory..

The rising generation is now referred to as "digital children". Basically encompassing those that grew up during and after the rise of technology and can barely remember a time without televisions and the internet.

I really love this sculpture (Name: "What Would Tom Friedman Do?). For those artistically and symbolically challenged, the above sculpture, as the artist described it, is about how with the growing generation that we will become what we watch. The artist, Trong Nguyen, was trying to make a point that people don't interact with each other anymore and there is an obsession with media and new technology. Sure, one could argue that there is interaction online through digital media like Facebook, Skype, or any variation of those, but nothing ever will trump physical interaction. Seeing a person face-to-face.

So the question isn't how media influences children anymore...that question has evolved to:
What technology will influence children next?
