The Great Debate

The question that has haunted this Earth for centuries...

- Which came first, the Chicken or the Egg?  -

Now, assuming this blog post has the usual audience of "Chicken-minded" people and being "Chicken-minded" myself, I will try and be unbiased and present information for the "Egg-siders".

The egg has a good sized list of documentation as to why it could have been first. The theory of evolution is simply "descent with modification". It took me awhile to understand what that phrase meant. After some careful analysis, I concluded that it was describing evolution as an adjustment of genetics to current times.
Evolution states that the world began by the "Big Bang". It is speculated that before the world was created, all matter and energy existed at one point. Scientists say that the universe is constantly expanding which would be accredited to the Big Bang. So the first living organisms on Earth is theorized to have mutated after many centuries and continued for centuries to change to breathing, walking, swimming, or whatever organisms can do, organisms. In the egg's case, scientists say since genetic mutation occurs only in the egg state, the egg must have come first.

As for the Chicken's side, I have only found one source that would genetically prove the Chicken's arrival first. Something about the egg formation while still inside the Chicken would be the result of mutation and thus proving that the chicken had to have come first. But to my "Chicken-minded" readers, I don't think too much needs to be expanded on why the chicken could have come first.

Personally, I believe that evolution and creationism are the same. The bible states that the world was created in 7 days, but what are 7 days to God? I think that the Big Bang probably did occur but only through God did it happen. So which came first?...I say both.

  1. Interesting ideas Shuan. I haven't ever thought of the chicken and egg question in terms of creation and Big Bang. But, you know, I like what you said about God making the Big Bang happen. I think that we sometimes get caught up in our own cleverness, in what we've uncovered about God's glorious creations, to the point that we convince ourselves that we are smarter than God. It's that great scripture--we are learned, so we think we are wise (2 Nephi 9:28)

  2. I echo what Kristen said. I have never delved into the scientific side of the chicken and egg debate; I always thought it more philosophical.
